What is Dravet Syndrome? Dravet Syndrome, also known as Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy of Infancy (SMEI), is a rare and lifelong form of epilepsy. It typically begins in the first year of life, characterized by frequent and prolonged seizures. These seizures are often triggered by fever or high temperature. Approximately 1 in 15,700 individuals in Australia are affected by this condition, with around 80% having a mutation in their SCN1A gene.
